Tanzania is a desirable destination in Africa and the trip was quite an experience.
Definitely it is a wonderful country.
Let me share with you some considerations after the trip.
Travel throughout Tanzania is a pleasure despite some inconveniences. The infrastructure is fairly good, asphalt roads, good mobile phone network coverage, lots of hotels, restaurants and places for having fun.
Driving your own car in Tanzania is an adventure because every few kilometers armed police will stop you for money...this applies mostly for foreigners.
The most convenient way to travel is by bus. Dar es Salaam is connected with main cities in Tanzania by many bus companies and daily schedule.
Dar es Salaam is connected to Kenyan cities Nairobi and Mombasa by daily bus which leaves as early as 6.30am
In Dar es Salaam it’s rare to find restaurants open by midday for lunch unless it’s in the city center.
Having dinner is most suitable because there are majority of street restaurants with pocket friendly prices. Most food offered is spicy and cocked in Indian style.
The ideal restaurant not to miss is MAMBOZ...this place is awesome and very cheap from all places.
Best tour around Dar es Salaam is by taxi, but the option is yours because there is tuk tuk and matatus available never to forget there congested bus.
Dar es Salaam is a commercial, business and touristic town, crowdie by day but silent by night.
I was amazed of how many 30-40 m floors buildings and towers it can be seen in town.
Dar es Salaam is a specific Muslim town with a lot of mosks and places for praying.
It’s very disappointing that places for having fun in Dar es Salaam are out of city center. You have to go by taxi and if you’re new in town it’s very discouraging.
Nightlife in Tanzania is very dull; you have to choose between gambling in casinos or consoling yourself in a luxury or 5 star hotels.
Shopping in Dar es Salaam is characterized by mini-supermarkets, mostly closed by 7pm.
In Tanzania you cannot miss Hotels at prices between 20 and 200 Euros.
Climate is friendly even in rainy season the temperature is never below 23. In Dar es Salaam you can find many beaches (ex.Coco beach) but never crowd unless weekends or holiday. The major beach are out of the city, you have to cross the ferry or go few km out of city center.
Arusha is a friendly town situated at 900 km north east of Dar es Salaam. It is a historical town that you cannot skip. The town is a symbol of communism in Tanzania since 1967. It takes about 12-13 hours to travel from Dar es Salaam.
By now Arusha is hosting International Institutions and meetings of East Africa leaders in a town whereby it’s warm by day and cold by night below 15 degrees. It is plenty of shops and mini shops.
Ps. TANZANIA IS A DESTINATION WHERE ONE CAN SAY NOTHING HAPPEND, PEOPLE GET BUSY SURVIVING.
